Adaptive Finite Volume Solution of MHD Systems
abstract
Systems of conservation laws with (initial) discontinuities need computational tricks (e.g. artificial diffusion) to be solved. The combination of time-dependent meshing, steered by smart monitor functions, and a finite volume technique allows for accurate and efficient solving of hyperbolic PDE systems without artificial terms.
A generic MATLAB implementation of this approach was made, parameterizable for all kinds of systems, initial conditions and monitor functions. Its effectivity is shown for some MHD systems (up to '1.75-d')
